Feel like Icarus

Recently I had a come to Jesus moment about my Wargaming/TTRPG hobby. I felt like Icarus and flew too close to the sun. I had too many rulesets, too many types and sizes of miniatures, a pile of random terrain that went no where. Just too much stuff. I've been chasing that next best thing and falling for the ol' fear of missing out. So when I finally got a second to sit down and play, I felt overwhelmed. I wasted so much time trying to choose a ruleset or scale, that I hardly has anytime to actually play. Terrible. So I took a step back and reset my hobby. I had to be honest with myself on what to keep and what to get rid of. First was the rulesets. I've thinned down my rulesets to just a few that I know I enjoy. Which in turn, helped with slimming down on terrain and miniatures. I've kept the appropriate and necessary terrain for the rulesets that I kept so now set up takes half the time. Now onto the hard one, everyone's favorite..... the miniatures. Too many boxes of half put together minis and more boxes of dusty ones that haven't seen the light of day in years. Again, had to be honest with myself. I slimmed down my stash to my personal favorites for RPG's and favorite squads for Wargaming. For my rank and flanks, I created units that could be used for multiple rulesets or scenarios by just changing the names and some theater of the mind. Personally, that was the move. Grabbing units for a game takes only moment and they're already set up in a such a way, that I have little problem filling out lists for games as Hobbgoblin, Kings of War, or Dragons Rampart.

The older I get, the more I appreciate efficiency along with simplicity. Ever since I've to come to that realization, my hobby time has been enjoyable and full of progress. When I sit down and play, I get to actually sit down and play. When I sit down to paint, I don't feel overwhelmed because I've slimmed down to a manageable level. When I sit down to do the hobby, I get to actually do the hobby. That in itself has been priceless.

This was a bit rambly but there it is. Just had to get that out and on paper. May the dice forever be in your favor, because they're sure as hell not in mine.
